Once upon a time (and not quite long, long ago), internet retailers had one choice of free shopping cart technology: osCommerce. Today, more than 10 popular open source (free) shopping cart platforms exist. In our view, OpenCart beats them all hands down.
WHY OPENCART?
If you're relatively new to selling online, you may notice that retailing has become increasingly specialized. There are fewer and fewer general broad-based brands like Buy.com, and mountains of niche-market ones like Zappos and Newegg. In fact, if you're still in the planning/expansion stages of e-tailing, the consumer electronics "niche" presence of Newegg can be quite intimidating. That's why OpenCart has such an attractive appeal because it makes excellent use of multi-store, multi-domain technology. Instead of hoping that Google generously positions your website at the top of your organic keywords like consumer electronics, you'll have an easier time if your entire site is devoted to a specifically narrow set of products. For example, promoting your XYZelectronics brand of merchandise while competing with 1.5 BILLION (yes, billion) Google results for the keyword electronics is going to require an amazingly aggressive SEO campaign. Compare this marketing strategy to developing a brand called XYZcameralenses while competing with 20 million Google search results for the keywords camera lenses.
OpenCart blows away every other free shopping cart when it comes down to multi-store retailer campaigns. Although Magento Commerce does a decent job of incorporating multiple storefront domains in one account, it's not quite practical for e-tailers wanting an arsenal of 10+ website brands. OpenCart also does a better job of handling a large database of product SKUs compared to other platforms.
HOW TO GET STARTED
DSDI will soon offer unlimited web hosting space for just $10 bucks in the next few weeks. You'll need to find a good web host provider if you don't already have one, but in the meantime, now is as good a time as any to begin researching the OpenCart technology. Admittedly, our own DropshipDirect.com Wholesale Warehouse system is powered by good ol' osCommerce, but we'd never recommend using osC for a completely new retail campaign when you have solutions like OpenCart, PrestaShop, and Magento Commerce today.

Hard MAP Pricing Restrictions Required for CampRight

Effective today, those wishing to resell the CampRight outdoor product line will need to comply with hard MAP pricing requirements.
If you're wondering what HARD versus STANDARD MAP pricing basically means, you're not alone. We've posted a full explanation of MAP pricing within our Business Glossary of the Wholesale Forums. However, here is a snippet explanation:
Interestingly enough, a new trend is emerging within the world of product pricing strategy: hard versus soft MAP policies. As a reminder, MAP is the Minimum Advertised Price allowable at the manufacturer level for retailers to consider when selling online. However, some manufacturers are more adamant about their price control mechanisms than others these days.
The most important distinction to be made about MAP selling policies circles around keeping a solid relationship with the manufacturer of your brand. In some cases, manufacturers are extremely meticulous about where and when their merchandise can be sold, especially within the web of e-commerce. Keep in mind that these “hard MAP” manufacturers are accustomed to a more traditional supply chain: manufacturer sells to distributor, distributor sells to stocking retailer, and retailer fills its shelves with merchandise at a brick-and-mortar store. Therefore, expect established brands to take a more cautious approach to online retail sales. They may even discourage “hide price from consumer” shopping cart tricks as a means to competitively lower the final product selling price. In fact, don’t be too surprised if you find yourself unknowingly violating a manufacturer’s hard MAP sales policy!
